We invite municipalities & urban practitioners on the behalf of international cities platform - Connective Cities to take part in the online event „Municipal Crisis Management and Green Recovery in Southeast Europe (SEE) and Caucasus”. The event is part of the series from the ongoing project “Municipal Response to COVID-19 for Sustainable Urban Development in Southeast Europe and Caucasus“. It brings together 20 municipalities of 13 countries in an attempt to identify good practices in the fields of urban development, digitalisation, green recovery and municipal crisis management.
The event will explore the crisis management mechanisms that cities employed in response to the COVID-19 and ways in which they envision green recovery. The pandemic tested the robustness and remorsefulness of mostly all municipal services, from transportation and waste management to recreation and food supply. Pandemic-centered protocols set new behavioral patterns - many of which were quite stressful for urban economies. On the contrary, others - such as raised environmental awareness - made both city leaders and citizens rethink the status-quo regarding sustainability and resilience. They created the opportunity for a green and circular economy to determine the mood of the recovery. A deep and better understanding of a city’s systems and operation is required in order to move towards sustainable development and greater resilience. If we manage to learn from the COVID-19 crisis, proactively apply long-term prevention and risk reduction approaches, we will meet future emergencies better prepared and also manage to avoid some of them.
Let’s rethink together the ways we plan, design and manage our cities, by promoting urban resilience and sustainability.
During the event, the participants will have a chance to discuss the specific cases from South East Europe, Caucasus and Germany and share their insights on the topic.
Conference languages are English and Russian.
